Ghost Recon OV3R
What do we know about the next Ghost Recon video game? We know its codename is Project OVER from various Ubisoft Shareholder meetings. The Ghost Recon project was first announced during a July 2024 shareholder meeting with Ubisoft’s CEO Yves Guillemot, who surprisingly mentioned Ghost Recon Over during the meeting. During a “Ubisoft strategy presentation” part of the meeting, there was a warning to the shareholders about the dangers of leaks and announcing games too early. Something Ubisoft is not new to, and look, still happens.
June 2024
In June of 2024, there was a different rumor that flopped partly from the July shareholder meeting, and the rest of the rumor basically flopped later with further leaks. In June of 2024, the new Ghost Recon was believed to be named Project GONE. The site, Fandom Wire, shares tons of “leaked” details on that GONE rumor. The site goes into some detail about the characters of the new game.
"Raphael, a veteran soldier in his mid-30s to late 40s, joined by Ringo, an Indonesian-American or Asian-American, a haunted soldier with a mysterious past, and Spengler, aged 30-40, a Japanese-American or South American, a forensic specialist.
Then Uhura, aged 30-40, is an American-North African or Middle-Eastern sniper in the team, followed by Ahn, who is somewhere between mid-20s to mid-30s and is of Thai origin. Her role is not of military importance but more on the social side, as she is a part of a multinational NGO and an advocate for those in need. The leak suggests the character is fluent in Thai.
Another important character is Kya-Win, a male Thai or Thai American in the 40s or 50s, a former head of the National Secret Police turned rogue operator. " ~ Fandom Wire
January 2025
So what leaks are most likely legit? Any leak, anytime, ALWAYS take with a grain of salt. A leak isn’t the official information. With that said, Insider Gaming reported January 2025 that Ghost Recon Over is part of a list of Ubisoft games that will be released by the END of 2026.
"Ubisoft currently has some big hitters in development and set to release by the end of 2026, including Splinter Cell Remake, Far Cry 7, Assassin’s Creed Shadows, Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Remake, Assassin’s Creed Hexe, Ghost Recon Over, the Prince of Persia: Sands of Time Remake, and a few other smaller projects under big IP names. The Division 3, the Rayman Remake, another Assassin’s Creed Remake codenamed Stardust, another flagship Assassin’s Creed RPG, and Beyond Good and Evil 2 (which is now progressing well) are further out." ~ Insider Gaming
March 2025
March of 2025, Insider Gamer dropped an exclusive report on Ghost Recon Over. Their sources shared details of the game from the target of release to the story itself. Ghost Recon Over has a target release date of 2025-2026. 2025 has always been very hopeful, but every month this year, more doubtful, as there is certainty that Ubisoft is not going to bum rush this game out the door like they did with Ghost Recon Breakpoint. It is certain from GRB’s dumpster fire launch and state, then a couple of other Ubisoft titles flopping right after, that it is safe to say Ubisoft learned its lesson, for the most part.
Insider Gamer has stated that their source shared with them that the new Ghost Recon is taking inspiration from some military games like Modern Warfare, Battlefield, Squad, and Ready or Not.
"The game is poised to be a squad-based military tactical shooter – almost milsim-like in nature – that will also take inspiration from some of the leading first-person military games including the Modern Warfare series, Battlefield, Squad, and Ready or Not." ~ Insider Gamer
IG has also stated that Ghost Recon Over is set to take place during a new fictional war, the Naiman War. The war is set to be in a hostile southeastern country, and there have been war crimes that have set the death toll into the hundreds of thousands. The story plot evolves around the Ghost team as you carry out secret missions in the region. Regarding to Naiman War, with some Google search, there was a Naiman tribe, a medieval tribe originating in the territory of modern Western Mongolia during the 12th and 13th centuries. In modern times, the Naiman tribe is an ethnic group in Naiman Banner, Inner Mongolia of China.
Insider Gamer article shares that they received gameplay recordings of the game that they cannot share publicly. IG shares that the gameplay appears to be heavily inspired by Modern Warfare, with Modern Warfare’s darker moments, like your team almost shooting a man holding a baby, where the Ghost team almost mistakes the baby for a bomb. IG also shared that there are major improvements to game graphics compared to the previous Ghost Recon.
"The game appears to take heavy inspiration from the Modern Warfare series, with some potential dark or controversial missions and segments. One mission for example shows your squad nearly shooting a man holding a baby – because they thought the baby was a bomb – but they realise this at the last second.
Graphically, the footage provided to Insider Gaming under the condition that the footage isn’t shared or goes public shows a significant graphical improvement over its predecessors and is best compared to something akin to Ready or Not." ~ Insider Gamer
June 2025
End of June 2025, Insider Gamer reported that Ghost Recon Over has gone into Internal Alpha Testing. Which means, Ubisoft employees are testing the game and looking for flaws/bugs in simple terms. Details can be much more complex than that, but it is a GREAT sign that we are getting closer to the game ANNOUNCEMENT, let alone release! That is what it really means to the average gamer! There may or may not be an Internal Beta Testing before going into Alpha Testing with select members of the gaming community, content creators, to regular gamers. From there, often, a public invite (Sign up for a chance to gain access, you probably know how this works) to one or more Closed Beta testings weeks or month(s) before there is a public Open Beta testing that everyone can try! Sorta like the old demos of the `90s and early 2000s. From there, weeks to months later, the launch of a game!
Insider Gamer sources have expressed that the internal alpha testing to final release could take about 12 months.
With that information, IG’s exclusive reporting on this being June 30th, 2025, their previous reporting in January 2026 with a list of games for by the end of 2026, we can have a new Ghost Recon game between June 2026 and the end of December 2026.
In the Insider Gamer article, they have been sticking to the Ghost Recon’s codename as Ghost Recon Ovr. Sharing for your information, if you decide to look for more information elsewhere, as a person should source information from more than one location.
Let’s hope for an announcement during The Game Awards, December 11th, 2025, on Game Awards channels on Twitch and YouTube.
